Unit 19: Our pets
Lesson 1: Part 1, 2, 3 ( P.60-61 )
I. Objectives
- By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to express possession.
II. Language focus
Vocabulary: dog, tortoise, rabbit, goldfish, parrot.
Sentence patterns: - I’ve got a cat.
- I haven’t got a dog.

I. Warm up:
- ? How are you today?
- Let’s play a game.
*T explains the rule of the game:
- “Look at the screen. I have four numbers. Each number has a picture of a pet. I divide the class into two groups. Each group choose a number in turn and two members from each group will ask and answer about the colour of the pet in the picture. If you ask and answer correctly your group will get a blue star. Which group has more stars will win the game.”

* Introduce the new lesson:
- Look at the screen, there are some cute pets.
- T points a cat and a bird and asks : What’s this?
- T introduces the word “pet”, the whole class repeat a few times.
- Which pet have you got at home?
- You’ve known a cat and a bird. Today you are going to learn about some more pets.
II. New lesson
1. Look, listen and repeat.( P. 60 )
*Set the scene:
+ Ask students to look at the picture then ask some questions:
? Who is this?/ And…? ( Quan and Mai )
? What are they doing?
? What are they talking about?
- T says: Quan and Mai are talking about their pets. You are going to listen the dialogue between them.
- Play the recording and ask students to listen to the tape twice.
- Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat a few times to reinforce their pronunciation.
- T takes the role of Mai and the whole class are Quan, read the dialogue again then change the roles.
- Divide the class into two groups. Have one group repeat Quan’s part and the other Mai’s. Repeat the step, but this time ask the group to swap their roles.
- Ask Ss to practice reading the dialogue in pairs.
- Call some pairs to demonstrate in front of the class.
- Correct Ss’ pronunciation mistakes when necessary.
2. Look and say.
* Introduce the new words:
- dog ( action and sound )
- tortoise ( picture )
- goldfish ( picture )
- rabbit ( action )
- parrot ( picture )
V- C- T: Point and read
- T shows the pictures of the pets and ask What’s this?, Ss speak up the names of the pets. T sticks the pictures on the wall. T reads the pets’ names, Ss point and speak up the pets’s name three times.
* Sentence patterns.
- T elicits the sentence patterns from the dialogue between Quan and Mai. T says: You look at the picture and remind the dialogue between Quan and Mai and tell me:
? What pet has Mai got? ( a cat )
- Ask Ss to find the sentence that Mai tells about her pet.
? Has she got a dog? ( No )
How does she say if she hasn’t got a dog?
( I’ve got a cat.
I haven’t got a dog.
- Take some more pets with each sentence pattern for Ss to understand the meaning of the structures.
* Practice. ( Picture cues )
- T shows pictures on the screen.
- T and Ss run through the pictures.
- T gives instruction.
- T models the first and the second picture with a student:
( The first picture ) S: I’ve got a tortoise.
T: I haven’t got a tortoise.
( The second picture ) T: I’ve got a rabbit.
S: I haven’t got a rabbit.
- Have the whole class repeat in chorus.
- Call
